How to download VR videos to a Quest 3

Downloaded scenes look better than streams, because they keep the full bitrate, and they play without buffering. Here are three ways to get them onto a Quest 3 or 3S.

Way 1: download in the headset browser

The simplest: no cable, no computer.

  1. Open the Quest browser and log in to your membership site.
  2. Open a scene and choose the download option and quality. Pick 6K to 8K for a Quest 3.
  3. The file goes to the headset's Download folder.
  4. Open it in a VR video player. Most players show the Download folder in their file list.

Good for a few files at a time. Big 8K files can take a while over Wi-Fi.

Way 2: copy from a PC with a USB-C cable

Best for big batches.

  1. Download the scenes on your PC.
  2. Connect the Quest to the PC with a USB-C cable and put the headset on.
  3. Allow access to your data when the headset asks. On a Windows PC the Quest then shows up in File Explorer as a drive.
  4. Copy the files into the Movies or Download folder.
  5. Unplug and open them in your player.

On a Mac, you need a file-transfer app, because macOS does not show the Quest as a drive by default.

Way 3: stream from your PC over Wi-Fi

No copying at all: the files stay on your PC or network drive and play in the headset.

  1. Share the folder on your PC, or run a media server.
  2. In a player such as SKYBOX or HereSphere, open the network or media-server section and pick your PC.
  3. Play. A 5 GHz or Wi-Fi 6 network gives the smoothest 8K playback.

Storage tips

  • An 8K scene can take several gigabytes. Check free space under the headset's storage settings before a big download.
  • If you watch a lot offline, the larger-storage version of the headset is worth it.
  • Delete scenes you have finished with; you can download them again while your membership is active.

Privacy

Files in the Download and Movies folders are visible to anyone who uses the headset. If you share it, keep scenes on your PC and stream them instead (way 3).
